Lido delle Nazioni: The Sporty Soul of the Adriatic

Lido delle Nazioni is the “sporty soul” of the seven Lidi di Comacchio in Italy’s Emilia-Romagna region. It’s a destination where open spaces meet the Adriatic Sea, making it a favorite for those who want a little more space on their summer vacation.

Description: Your dream summer base

Lido delle Nazioni is characterized by its wide sandy beaches and a relaxed, residential atmosphere. Unlike some of the more cramped coastal towns, this area is known for its spacious layouts.

If you’re planning a vacation, this is the place to seek luxury. The area is famous for its villas nestled in the greenery, many of which offer the ultimate vacation perk: a private pool. Imagine spending your mornings on the beach and your afternoons relaxing in a secluded garden by your own pool, while enjoying the privacy that a luxury villa offers. It's the perfect blend of seaside fun and tranquil, "home away from home" comfort.

A Touch of History

The town's name, "Lido of Nations," reflects its post-World War II development goal: to create an international tourist hub. The streets are uniquely named after different countries and continents.

A fascinating historical gem is Capanno di Garibaldi. In 1849, Italian hero Giuseppe Garibaldi sought refuge in a small hut here while fleeing Austrian troops. You can still visit this site today to get a sense of the history of the Risorgimento that unfolded right on these shores.

Tastes of the Delta

The cuisine here is a marriage of the sea and the nearby freshwater lagoons.

Anguilla (eel): The undisputed king of the table. Whether grilled, marinated, or served in a risotto, it's a must-try.
Vongole and Cozze: Fresh mussels and mussels harvested from the nearby Goro area.
Salama da Sugo: A very rich, spicy pork sausage typical of the Ferrara province, usually served with mashed potatoes.
Coppia Ferrarese: The world-famous, crispy, X-shaped sourdough bread from the region.

Activities: Get going

If you can tear yourself away from your private pool, there’s plenty to do:

Water sports: The large artificial lake (Lago delle Nazioni) is a hub for sailing, windsurfing and canoeing.
Horse riding: The area is famous for its white Camargue-Delta horses. Riding through the pine forests at sunset is a key experience here.
Cycling: Miles of flat paths lead you through the marshes and along the coast.

Nature: Po Delta Park

Lido delle Nazioni is a gateway to the Po Delta Interregional Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Birdwatching: Keep an eye out for pink flamingos, herons and egrets.
Pine Forest: The Pineta di Volano offers a cool, shady haven for walks and picnics, right next to the salty air of the beach.

Festivals and Events

La Notte Rosa (The Pink Night): Usually in July, the entire coast turns pink with concerts, parties and fireworks that last until dawn.
Eel Festival (Sagra dell'Anguilla): Held in nearby Comacchio every October, it is a foodie's paradise.
Summer Beach Games: During August, the "Nations" often host national beach volleyball and beach tennis tournaments.
